Giving Presents You Know They’ll Love Can Be A Challenge!

We’ve all struggled and sweated to find the perfect gift for someone special. Many times, we’ve ended up buying something way over our budget- or, worse, something we’re not even sure the recipient likes- out of total desperation. In an age where holiday celebrations mean so much, the pressure to find the right presents can bring on a lot of stress.

The pressure increases when you really want to give unusual gifts. If you’re the type who thinks a gift card or restaurant certificate is too cliche, where do you go for ideas for unusual gifts? How do you express your personality through the gifts that you give?

The real trick to all of this is simple. Take an ordinary gift, and make it unusual with a few personal twists. This will make shopping simple and will show the recipient that you really care about him or her as a person.

For example, couples buy each other jewelry all the time. Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, and birthdays are all typical occasions for giving jewelry. You might wonder how jewelry falls under the category of unusual gifts.

The answer is all in the spin you put on it. Let’s say that your loved one has a special hobby or interest. Maybe she loves to study butterflies, or she is in school to become a geologist. When it comes time to purchase jewelry for her, forgo the usual diamonds in favor of a piece that reflects what she loves. A butterfly-shaped pendant or a set of copper bracelets will do more than give her beautiful pieces to wear. They will also show her that you’ve been paying attention, and that you chose the piece especially for her.

The same simple trick applies for any sort of gift giving, not just jewelry. If your father loves boats, buy him a handsome wall clock with a nautical theme. If you really want to make it unusual, include a gift certificate for some sailing lessons. The idea of combining ordinary, run-of-the-mill presents into a loving package that expresses the person is the whole trick behind giving unusual gifts.

This all sounds easy enough, but if there’s a holiday looming and you don’t know where to start, it can still seem overwhelming. Don’t panic! Finding just the right gifts is easy if you know how to begin.

1. Sit down and make a list about the person. Write down his or her areas of interest, hobbies, and personal preferences. Maybe every time the two of you go out, she needs to stop for a cup of coffee. She obviously loves coffee! Write it down!

2. Once you have a full list of subjects, it’s time to hit the Internet. If you have a specific gift in mind, like jewelry, that will help narrow your search… but it’s not totally necessary. Go to a search engine and type in “coffee gifts” if you’re still undecided, or “butterfly jewelry” if you know what direction you’re headed.

3. Continue down your list, combining all of the person’s interests with the word “gift” or the name of the gift you’d like to give. The websites that pop up are sure to give you plenty of ideas. Write down ideas and websites that strike a chord with you.

4. Keep in mind, you don’t have to buy your gift over the Internet! This is just a way to get the creative juices flowing. If you do find the perfect item on a website, feel free to order it. But if you’d rather call up local boutiques and see if they carry some of the things you found, that’s fine too.

It’s really just that easy! Finding unusual gifts isn’t hard. The trick is to remember that when you give someone a gift, the moment is special between the two of you. There will never be another time when you have a chance to give this person a gift for his 30th birthday or her first Valentine’s Day with you. If you treat it as a special moment, you’re more inclined to find unusual gifts that really reflect the two of you. Good luck, and happy gift giving!

How To House Train Your Dog Effectively

Filed under: Animal Care — @ 11:31 am

House training is one of the most important parts of training any dog to be a valued part of the family. As with many other aspects of dog training, the best way to house train a dog is to use the dog’s own nature to your benefit.

The great thing about dogs, and the thing that can make house training much easier, is that dogs are instinctively very clean animals. Dogs would rather not soil the areas where they sleep and eat. In addition, dogs are very good at developing habits regarding where they like to urinate and defecate.

For example, dogs that are used to eliminating on concrete or gravel will prefer to eliminate there rather than on grass or dirt. It is possible to use these natural canine habits when house training your dog.

Setting up the training area

The first step in house training your dog is to set up your training area. A small, confined space such as a bathroom, or part of a kitchen or garage, works best as a training area. This method of training differs from crate training. Crate training is great for puppies and small dogs, but many larger dogs find a crate too confining.

It is important for the owner to spend as much time in the training area with his or her dog as possible. It is important for the owner to play with the dog in the training area, and to let the dog eat and sleep in that area. The dog should be provided with a special bed in the training area, anything from a store bought bed to a large towel to a large box. At first, the dog may eliminate in this area, but once the dog has recognized it as his or her own space, he or she will be reluctant to soil it.

After the dog has gotten used to sleeping in the bed, the owner can move it around the house, relocating it from room to room. When you are not with your dog, the dog should be confined to the training area.

Setting up the toilet area

The second part of house training is to set up the toilet area for the dog. It is important for the dog to have access to this place every time he or she needs to eliminate. It is also important for the owner to accompany the dog each time until he or she gets into the habit of eliminating in the toilet area. This will ensure that the dog uses only the established toilet area.

A set feeding schedule makes the house training process a lot easier for both the owner and the dog. Feeding the dog on a regular basis will also create a regular schedule for the dog’s toilet habits. Once you know when your dog is likely to need to eliminate, it will be simple to guide the dog to the established toilet area.

Once the dog has established a toilet area and is using it on a regular basis, it is very important to not confine the dog without access to the toilet area for long periods of time. That is because if the dog is unable to hold it, he or she may be forced to eliminate in the training area. This habit can make house training much more difficult.

Continuing the house training process

After the dog is consistently eliminating in the toilet area and not soiling the training area, it is time to extend that training area to the rest of the home. This process should be done slowly, starting with one room and slowly expanding to the rest of the house. The area should only be extended once you are sure of the dog’s ability to control its bladder and bowels.

When you first expand the training area to a single room, let the dog eat, play and sleep in that room, but only when supervised. When it is not possible to supervise the dog, place it back in the original training area. Then, after the dog has accepted the room as an extension of the original training area, the area can be extended.

Speeding up the process

If this process is too lengthy for your needs, it can be speeded up, but it is important to proceed cautiously. It is easier to take your time up front than to retrain a problem dog later. One way to successfully speed up house training is to praise and reward the dog each and every time it uses the established toilet area. It is also important not to punish the dog for mistakes. Punishment will only confuse the dog and slow down the house training process.

Write Articles, Get Noticed

Filed under: Publishers Bar — @ 3:40 pm

If you have a website, you need to get visitors to that website.
Writing articles is one of the best ways to get that traffic.

Many people believe that they can’t write. My feeling is, if you
can talk - you can write. It may help you to list the major
points that you are trying to make. Think about the subject you
want to write about. Is there a product or an affiliate program
that you want to showcase?

Once you know the topic and the points you want to make, create
a simple outline. Then, all you have to do is elaborate on each
point. Before you know it, you have your article written!

When your article is finished, create a “killer” resource box
that introduces you, your website and your product (or your
affiliate product). This is the place to brag about yourself and
how good your product is! The content of the resource box will
usually look like it has been written by a person other than the
author of the article. I’m sure that most people understand that
it was written by the author, but it doesn’t look as much like
your “tooting your own horn.” :) A resource box should not be
longer than four or five lines including the site URL.

You may think that a few articles won’t make much difference to
your promotion efforts, but look at the ways they could bring
traffic:

1. Submission of your articles to article announcement lists and
article directories will create outside “links” to your website.
The resource box at the end of your article will be the place to
put that link. If you’re an affiliate marketer, it’s better to
have the link refer to a page on your own website that relates
to the affiliate product rather than directly to the affiliate
program’s website. That way, you get the traffic first - not
them. It’s also a good idea to have a form for your newsletter
that will capture their name and email address so you can build
your optin list.

2. Send your articles to newsletter publishers. Most publishers
either keep an archive of their past newsletters or will add
your article to their own article directory.

Do a search in newsletter directories and email the publisher to
request permission to send him or her your articles. Keep these
publishers in a special list that you can send to whenever you
write an article. Ask the publishers how often they would prefer
you send your articles to them. Otherwise, they may feel you are
bombing them :)

3. Using your articles on your own site, as useful content, will
give the search engines something to feed on. Be sure that you
have the appropriate meta tag keywords on the page for each
article you write. Then, submit that page to search engines.

After you have accumulated a number of your own articles, and
have added them to your site, you will have a good start to an
article directory where your visitors can come to read articles
on a particular subject that that they are interested in.

Invite other authors to post their articles to your article
directory. This will not only help bring traffic to their site,
but also to yours, by having a resource readily available to
your website visitors. Keep their resource box just as they
wrote it (unless they have given you permission to add your own
affiliate link). Also make sure that their link is “live” - that
is clickable to their website. If your site visitors know there
will be new articles posted on their subject of interest often,
they will come back again - and again.

Writing articles may sometimes seem like a chore. But it is a
necessary one to your online success. So, ready, set, start
writing!
